What is the Amazing Book Race?
also's Amazing Book Race is a fun-packed day where teams of 4-5 people race around to Ottawa's downtown literacy checkpoints. At each location, the teams are given literacy-based tasks such as reading a story to a group of people or completing a word search. Once a team has visited all the checkpoints, they return to the starting point to claim their prize and rest with some much-deserved refreshments and entertainment.
Since 2005, also's Amazing Book Race raises funds through individual pledges and institutional giving in support of this fun, literacy awareness event.

One participant's experience…
"We, On the Book Cathy Amey Sarah Emma participants, had a fabulous time and, even more importantly, we were inspired! After successful completion of all 14 checkpoints we felt like Amey Cathy Emma Sarah.
People on the street commented on our shirts which had our initials in upper and lower cases... comments like ... "does that spell something?" then, "what are you doing?" " why?" ... which gave us a wonderful opportunity to talk about ALSO. We felt like ambassadors who really made a impact in the community that day. It was, indeed, one of these encounters where the person we were talking to about "being on the book case" mixed us up to make us ACES! He was thrilled with his observation and so were we...The OC drivers we met were real players they go right into the spirit and were very helpful too. Your volunteers are also amazing. Their words of encouragement were much appreciated. We appreciated the water bottles. Your superb and detailed organization of the whole event made it very pleasurable for us.
Cathy and I were thrilled that both our daughters wanted to be part of our team. Cathy's younger daughter is excited for next year and wants to join us... another Sarah, so we will be the On the book CASES. To spur us on in our training for ALSO's Amazing Bookrace 2010, we would like to know where our team placed in the group who completed 14 checkpoints. We appreciated the water bottles. Your superb and detailed organization of the whole event made it very pleasurable for us. Many thanks."
